In the Revelations of Divine Love, Julian of Norwich described the nurturing care of Mother Jesus. The God of Genesis broods over the waters like a hen over eggs. The divine wisdom that dwells in the world is often described as feminine – Sophia and the Shekhinah. Love we associate with motherhood shows up in many gendered forms, and for Mothers Day we honor all the ways that nurture shows up – divine and human.
