The Exploring Diversity Book Group will meet on Monday, September 14 at 1:30pm to discuss Beautiful Country: A Memoir of an Undocumented Childhood by Qian Julie Wang.

When seven-year-old Qian—pronounced “Chyan”—arrives in New York City in 1994, her curiosity is quickly overshadowed by fear and scarcity. Once professors in China, her parents now find themselves undocumented and vulnerable to exploitation. Told from a child’s point of view, this powerful memoir is a testament to the love, curiosity, grit, and hope of a courageous and resourceful immigrant child. As her family fractures under the weight of poverty and invisibility, Qian comes of age in the shadows but never stops seeking the light.
