We have waited and waited for good weather to plant tomato plants. It is finally here. The Harris County garden guru says it’s already past the ideal time for our SE side, by a week or so. We don’t want to delay, so we’re having a special tomato planting day this coming Saturday March 1. We’ll start at 9:30 AM. It’s predicted to be sunny with temps in the 60s, and not too windy. Melissa Peterman and the Malins have some tomato seedlings from seeds that we planted indoors. There are now several good varieties of tomato plants at the Houston Garden Center, and they have also arrived at the HEB on the Gulf Freeway. Lowes and Home Depot are still lagging – only big container tomatoes. Maas Nursery probably has them, but we haven’t had a chance to check. Beatriz will pick up our Urban Harvest plants March 1, and may be able to get them to us in time for Saturday planting.
