Plan to join us Monday, February 24 at 1:30pm via Zoom to discuss United: Thoughts on Finding Common Ground and Advancing the Common Good, by Corey Booker. The author of this uplifting memoir is a US Senator from New Jersey who lives in Newark’s Central Ward. He was born in Washington, D.C..where is parents, both worked for IBM. They were later relocated to suburban Harrington Park, New Jersey. A star high school athlete and student, Corey went to great colleges and earned a Yale law degree. Then he moved to Newark to the projects, as a tenants’ rights lawyer. After struggles, mentoring and successes for Central Ward, he was elected mayor, then Senator. He draws on his experiences to call for national unity and compassion — for rising above despair to hope, to embrace our interdependence and pursue our shared mission for justice. Dozens of previous club picks are available in the church library! Our next book will be Whiskey Tender: A Memoir, by Deborah Taffa. Email Jane Malin to get on our email list.
