Sunday Service - Bay Area UU Church - May 31, 2026
To Proclaim Freedom - Rev. Katie McQuage-Loukas - Our faith has a long legacy of utopian dreamers. Our tradition has a long history of those who fought for justice. The religious imagination goes beyond the political, pointing us to reach for what seems impossible. Even when those dreams fall short, they still accomplish great things. Rev. Katie will share early thoughts on the UUA’s call for us to study abolition, moving beyond mere reform of prisons and policing.

The Divine Contains Multitudes - Rev. Katie McQuage-Loukas - In the Revelations of Divine Love, Julian of Norwich described the nurturing care of Mother Jesus. The God of Genesis broods over the waters like a hen over eggs. The divine wisdom that dwells in the world is often described as feminine – Sophia and the Shekhinah. Love we associate with motherhood shows up in many gendered forms, and for Mothers Day we honor all the ways that nurture shows up – divine and human.

Flower Communion - Rev. Katie McQuage-Loukas - Join us this Sunday to celebrate May Day with our flower communion. Bring a flower, a symbol of all that you bring to the community, and we will create a majestic bouquet together—and naturally we will have some flowers for you when you arrive, if you need one. We will also reflect on International Labor Day, and the value of all who labor, that work being the manifestation of the sacred worth of every person.

That's How the Light Gets In - Rev. Katie McQuage-Loukas - It seems at times that our world is getting narrower. Authoritarianism rises and the political horizons grow smaller and smaller. Yet those small gaps in which we can still labor for change are more significant than we know…and when we are willing to leverage those cracks we can achieve more than we ever thought possible.
