BAUUC’s Exploring Diversity Book Group is now reading “Cuba, Adios: A Young Man’s Journey to Freedom” by Lorenzo Pablo Martinez. Martinez was one 14,000 Cuban children who
escaped Fidel Castro’s communist regime between 1960 and 1962 as part of an airlift known as Operación Pedro Pan. This prize-winning book is a poignant and thoughtful account of one boy’s survival and self-acceptance, written with unflinching honesty and wry humor. Martinez, now a Houstonian, is a bilingual writer and composer with a doctorate in music from
Columbia University. We will gather to discuss the book and share our own experiences on Thursday July 25 at 1:30pm in the church library. For more information, please contact Jane Malin.
