Diversity Book Group

It is time to begin reading ‘The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek’ by K. Richardson, for the next meeting of The Exploring Diversity Book Group on Thursday afternoon May 13 at 1:30pm on Zoom. This book of historical fiction is an emotionally moving and fascinating story about the power of literacy over bigotry, hatred, and fear. In 1936, 19-year-old Cussy Mary Carter works for the New Deal-funded Pack Horse Library Project, navigating a community steeped in racial intolerance, to deliver reading material in rural Kentucky. The book shines a light on the courageous, dedicated women who brought books and hope to those struggling to survive on the lowest rung of a hierarchical society.
