Board of Directors July 2022 Update

On July 18th, your Board of Directors met for the first regular board meeting of the term. We are looking forward to an exciting year as the Search Committee begins its work. Mark Sheehan represented the Search Committee at the meeting and the board was asked to approve a contract negotiation team. This team will develop a contract and negotiate with our new settled minister when a match is achieved. That team will be finalized soon.

COVID concerns were on the agenda as Harris County is expected to follow other metropolitan areas with a large surge of cases due to the highly contagious BA.5 and BA.4 variants and the variants’ resistance to current immunization formulas. The Board recommended some steps to promote awareness of the surge in cases and reminders of how we can protect each other. We are all so tired of this topic.

The Board calendar was approved, and dates for board meetings and congregational meetings are set for the term. We took some time to orient ourselves to some organizational aspects of board service and noted the contributions of the many board volunteers over the years who have done (and continue to do) the hard work of supporting this beloved community.

And speaking of gratitude, the board expresses the gratitude of many in our community for the dedication and love Darcy Truehan demonstrated in her many years of service in our kitchen as she resigns as chef and kitchen manager as of July 31.
