Want to deepen your spirituality, connect with others and explore some of the big questions about life and religion? This fall, BAUUC will begin a new program of small group ministry circles called “Connection Groups.” These groups will offer you the opportunity to meet together with 8-10 other adults on a regular basis over an extended period of time. They will provide a comfortable space for deeper discussions and the formation of bonds between people who may not have been previously acquainted. Each group will be led by a trained facilitator and they will meet for 90 minutes once a month from October to May. If you’ve participated in our “Chalice Circles” over the last several years, these groups will be similar in design and structure but will focus more on personal spirituality, values and sharing. Sign-up forms for these new Connection Groups will be available at the church and online beginning on Sunday September 2.
Do you ever stop and wonder why you believe what you believe and why you try to live your values in the ways that you do? In Unitarian Universalism, the answers to those questions can be as diverse as the people asking them. One way of examining the “why” of our faith and our actions is the list of the “Sources of the Living Tradition of Unitarian Universalism” as expressed in our UU Association’s guiding documents. Rev. Bruce Beisner invites you to join him on Wednesday nights in September at 7:00pm in the church library for a lively exploration of these “Sources.” We’ll begin on Wednesday September 12 with a discussion of how our personal experiences of wonder and awe shape our understandings of self and relationship. On Wednesday September 19, our class will focus on ideas about the nature of revelation and truth as expressed various world religions. Our discussion will turn to the knowledge of science and philosophy and the guidance it provides on Wednesday September 26. The class will end with an examination of wisdom from earth-centered traditions on Wednesday October 3. You are welcome to come to any or all of these sessions. For more information, please contact Rev. Beisner at firstname.lastname@example.org
There’s a lot of stress these days among family members and friends who are divided politically, and the current polarized public conversation doesn’t help. Please join us for a Better Angels Skills Workshop to learn skills for having respectful conversations that clarify differences, search for common ground, and affirm the importance of the relationship. This program will follow materials provided by the group Better Angels, a bipartisan citizen’s movement to unify our divided nation. The workshop will be led by David Throop and will take place on Saturday September 22 from 12:30pm to 3:30pm in Cockrell Hall.
Our church is filled with people who love to cook and people who love to eat. Whichever you are, plan to join us for our first big All-Church Potluck Dinner on Saturday September 22 starting at 6:00pm in Cockrell Hall. Bring an entrée, side dish or dessert of your creation to share and we’ll enjoy the grand diversity of flavors that happens when we each contribute a little to the feast. Drinks will be provided, plus there will be some fun activities for all ages following our meal. Come and celebrate community, connection and good food with us!
