History Sundays – The Untold History of the United States

04/08/2018 - 04/29/2018

On Sundays nights starting this month, we’ll be gathering at 7:00pm in the Cockrell Fellowship Hall to explore and learn about some of the hidden or under-recognized stories of recent American history. Each week, we’ll be viewing and discussing a different portion of the award-winning documentary series “The Untold History of the United States” by Oliver Stone and Petr Kuznick. On Sunday April 8 at 7:00pm, we will present “World War II” which explores the birth of the American Empire by focusing on Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin. On Sunday April 22 at 7:00pm, we will present “Roosevelt, Truman and Wallace” which highlights the historical upset of Harry Truman replacing Henry Wallace as Roosevelt’s Vice President during his fourth term. And on Sunday April 29 at 7:00pm, we’ll present “The Bomb” which explores the strategies behind the US atomic bombings of Japan and the mistrust that grew between the Soviets and the Allies in the years afterward.  Additional segments in the documentary series will be shown on Sundays in May and June.
