Start reading and join us on Thursday July 19 from 1:30-3 pm. The book for our next meeting is Between The World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. This book has won multiple book awards. It is the author’s letter to his adolescent son on what it means to be black in America today. He shares the story of his awakening to the truth about his place in the world through a series of experiences, from Howard University to Civil War battlefields, from the South Side of Chicago to Paris, from his childhood home to the living rooms of mothers whose children’s lives were taken. It weaves together personal narrative, re-imagined history, and emotionally-charged reporting, to illuminate the past, confront our present, and offer a vision for a way forward. You can get a used book from the library or order from internet booksellers such as Better World Books.
