Are you the parent of a UU child? Do you wonder how you’ll help your child live their UU principles in a contradicting world? Come, bring your kids, and join other parents just like yourself for a potluck meal and get to know our Parents of Young Children Covenant Group. We may be just what you’re looking for. This group is open to all parents of children up through age 12. Join us for our next gathering on Sunday August 20 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm in Cockrell Hall. Childcare is provided for $5 per child. For more information, contact David Throop at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The BAUUC Choir will begin practicing again on Wednesday August 22 at 7:00pm in the sanctuary. Our first Sunday to sing for the service will be on Sunday September 9. Come and join your voice with ours and experience sharing the gift of music with others! If you would like to join the Choir, please contact Music Director Beth Byler Jordan at 281-482-5031 or email@example.com.
Our Women’s Spirituality Group offers women the opportunity to connect with others and explore their spirituality. The group is currently reading and discussing the book “Our Souls at Night” by Kent Haruf. The next meeting will be on Thursday August 23 at 10:00am in room 131. Come and enjoy this community of women as we share our lives and strengthen our spirits. For more information, please contact Julie Blanford at firstname.lastname@example.org or 713-305-4313.
Our next book is ‘Waking up White and Finding Myself in the Story of Race’, by Debby Irving (2014). One “aha!” moment launched an adventure of discovery and insight for this teacher. She opens a window on how white Americans are socialized, by focusing on the mechanics of racism operating in just one life — her own. The book is available new or used or Kindle/Nook. We will discuss this book Thursday, August 23 from 1:30 to 3:00pm in the library. Judy Bergman will lead a lively discussion. We plan to celebrate a birthday that day too. What a perfect time for YOU to join – start reading.
As part of our commitment to support LGBTQ people in our community, BAUUC hosts the monthly gatherings of the Clear Lake meeting of PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). The group works to keep families together in loving relationships, helping them understand and affirm their gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning family members. PFLAG meetings take place on the fourth Sunday of each month at 2:00pm in Cockrell Hall. The next meeting will be on Sunday August 26. For more information, please call the Houston area PFLAG helpline at 713-467-3524.
